Airwork Africa appoints Executive General Manager

Airwork Africa has strengthened its Management Team with the appointment of Michiel Swanepoel as Executive General Manager.

Airwork Africa, a member of the Salus Aviation Group of companies, is pleased to announce the appointment of Michiel Swanepoel as Executive General Manager.

This appointment reflects Airwork Africa’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence, strategic growth in the African continent, and its global leadership in the aviation industry.

Michiel brings more than 15 years of aviation industry experience, combining his operational background as a pilot with senior management expertise. Based in South Africa, he has held South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) and Department of Transport–approved leadership roles, overseeing complex, high-stakes operations throughout Africa.

Recognised for his decisive leadership and commitment to safety and innovation, Michiel has successfully led multinational contracts, managed cross-functional teams, and delivered tailored aviation solutions in some of the continent’s most demanding environments. His appointment reflects Salus Aviation’s strategic focus on strengthening its footprint and capabilities across Africa.

Michiel’s passion for excellence and drive to build enduring partnerships will be instrumental in elevating Salus Aviation’s service delivery and market presence across the region.

Based in South Africa at Wonderboom Airport, Pretoria, Airwork Africa has a unique depth of experience and capability in operating in remote and austere environments across the African continent. With industry-leading capabilities in this highly specialised field enable Airwork Africa to provide comprehensive turnkey aviation services. Airwork (acquired by Salus Aviation in 2022) has been successfully operating in Africa since 2005 and the Airwork Africa Base was opened in 2014. Its purpose is to provide a foothold in Africa and to further facilitate the diverse range of aviation services. Contracts supported over this time include powerline, construction, offshore oil and gas exploration, seismic drilling programmes, support for the development of a large West African mining project and other complex exploration projects.
